Baltic Summer Academy

The Baltic Summer Academy aims to build the capacity of schools in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to foster an inclusive and democratic culture through promotion and implementation of citizenship and human rights education

The trainings follow a whole school approach, that aims to build the capacity of schools in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to foster an inclusive and democratic culture by training teachers, school leaders, community members and student representatives in citizenship and human rights education.

In 2019 the Academy was organised in Vilnius and hosted by the Lithuanian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and implemented in cooperation with the Open Lithuania Foundation

From inactive to award winning student council in Estonia


Wanting a more involved school community and recognizing the potential of the student council to become a real representation and co-management body, the Tallin Laaga School and Kindergarten in Estonia participated at the EWC Baltic Regional Summer Academy in 2019. Since then a lot has happened, and they even won the Active Student Council Award 2020, a competition organized by the Department of Education of the city of Tallin.

Dealing with Controversy in the Nordic Countries

The project aimed to strengthen particpants' competences in creating safe and inclusive spaces for teaching and discussing controversial issues with young people.

The project Student Teachers Practice for Democratic Culture - STEP UP-DC attempts to connect Competences for Democratic Culture (CDC) and teacher training, especially Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Fighting antisemitism, xenophobia and racism now!

Building upon several years of cooperation, EWC will partner with the POLIN museum in Warsaw to offer an educational 3-year project for Polish and Norwegian youth addressing hate speech and intolerance, as part of the EEA Grants pre-defined project “Jewish Culture Heritage” (2019-2024). It will provide tools for developing competences such as tolerance, intercultural understanding and critical thinking.

Preparing Future Teachers in the Western Balkans

Preparing Future Teachers in the Western Balkans aims to develop and integrate new teacher education modules with a focus on practice-oriented teaching promoting citizenship, democracy and human rights.
