New online courses on digital citizenship education

The European Wergeland Centre and the Council of Europe have in close partnership developed a series of online courses on digital citizenship education (DCE).

Help your students become active citizens in a world dominated by digitial technology.

The courses will help educators across Europe to improve their understanding of digital citizenship education, and provide them with the skills necessary to teach it to their students.

Through the courses, educators will have the opportunity to work together with fellow professionals on real-life examples, and be able to plan digital citizenship learning experiences that will engage and empower students to become active citizens in a world dominated by digital technology.

The first course “What is digital citizenship education?” explores the following questions:

  • What does it mean for young learners to be digital citizens in today’s society?
  • What are the aims and purposes of digital citizenship education?
  • How to integrate digital citizenship education into everyday practice?

The new courses dive deep into the following issues:

  • Hate speech online
  • Cyberbullying
  • Disinformation
  • Access and inclusion
  • Controversial issues online.
