For our new Romania pilot project «Promoting Quality education and Inclusion in Romania” we need support in the Oslo office. We are now seeking a qualified project officer to join our international team.

Project Officer, Section for Civil Society and Teacher Education
Working hours: up to 75%
Starting date: 15 August 2024 until April 2025, possibility for extension.
Salary scale: 47-58

Location: Oslo/Norway

About the position:

The European Wergeland Centre (EWC) is a European resource centre promoting democracy and human rights through education. We were established by Norway and the Council of Europe.

The position is part of the Section for Civil Society and Teacher Education. The section aims to strengthen the teaching of democratic values and competences within teacher education. For this to happen, we support higher education institutions and teacher training centers to incorporate democracy, human rights and inclusion into their curriculum and training programs.

We also provide a range of projects building the capacity of teachers and other educators to create safe and inclusive classrooms and schools. In addition, with Europe facing a shrinking civic space and an ongoing war, we also work with civil society including NGOS/CSOs and museums, enabling them to employ civic education as an important instrument to re-affirm democratic values and build resilient communities.

Tasks/responsibilities:

  • To support EWC projects in Romania and Bulgaria promoting Roma inclusion.
  • To organise study visits, trainings and other activities for Romanian teachers, school leaders and municipalities in Oslo/Norway, in cooperation with the Project Manager.
  • To coordinate translation of materials from English to Romanian, etc.
  • To work on project documentation and streamlining of tools, and support evaluation efforts.
  • To represent EWC at external meetings, events and sector/ other relevant groups including delivering presentations/briefings.
  • Ability to produce written and oral products in cooperation with others and contribute across the organization.
  • To translate from Romanian to English and vice versa, orally and in writing.
  • To support EWCs activities in Bulgaria.

The position will require some international travel.

Qualifications:

  • Completed relevant education on university or college level, minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Fluent in Romanian and English language– capacity to translate ad-hoc in non-formal settings.
  • Country knowledge from Romania and a good understanding of the context
  • Experiences providing administrative support/ organizing events, etc
  • Availability to travel between Romania and Norway. Eventually to other countries in Europe.
  • Commitment to EWCs’ vision, mission, and values.

Work location in the city Centre of Oslo (close to Oslo Central Station).

Salary will be based on experiences and qualifications and will be discussed during the recruitment process. The organization is bound by collective agreement with Virke (National Agreement for Enterprises § 26), but follows the salary table of the following collective agreement: LO Stat og YS Stat.
