The “Schools for All” project’s team participated in the Conference “Refugee Education: Investing in People, Investing in the Future” organized by the Independent Department for the Monitoring and Coordination of the Refugee Education and the Regional Directorate for Education of North Aegean, by designing and implementing educational and experiential learning activities addressed to teachers and educators.
Over 100 teachers and educators actively participated in the educational and experiential learning activities provided by our team on Tuesday March 26th and Wednesday March 27th, in Mytilene island during the two-day Conference on the topic “Refugee Education: Investing in People, Investing in the Future”. Principals, teachers and educators from schools in Lesvos island, including teachers of Reception Classes and Greek Reception Facilities for Refugee Education, Refugee Education Coordinators, as well as members of organizations actively work with refugees, came into contact through hands-on experience with the educational approach of the “Schools for All” project. Through experiential learning activities, group work, discussion, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the educational methodological approach of the “Schools For All” project, as well as they were introduced to the Handbook “31 Basic Activities”, which was created in the framework of its implementation. In addition, they had the opportunity to discuss the challenges that children with refugee experience face when entering Greek schools, as well as to reflect on good practices and methods according to their personal experience. Finally, during the two-day event, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the relevant actions implemented in the schools of Lesvos island by trainers of ‘Schools For All’, as members of our school network.
The Secretary General of Primary, Secondary Education and Special Education of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sport, the local authorities and education officials, as well as representatives of organizations and international organizations during their participation in the two-day Conference had the chance to discuss on issues related to the education of refugee children. The two-day Conference was held in the hall of the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy.
