The Ukrainian version of the Council of Europe publication “Descriptors of competences for democratic culture for young learners,” translated by the European Wergeland Centre, as part of “the Schools for Democracy” Programme.
This publication provides a separate set of 166 descriptors of competences for democratic culture validated for work with children below 10 years old, which was developed based on the Council of Europe’s Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC). The model of competences for democratic culture includes values, attitudes, skills, and knowledge and critical understanding and is described in Volume 1 of the RFCDC.
Development of democratic competences should start from early childhood, thus this manual is going to be useful for our work with the preschool teachers to be trained within the Programme as descriptors help to operationalise the competences and provide important tools for curriculum planning, teaching and learning, and assessment.
