During the school year 2019-2020, 18 Gymnasiums of Northern and Southern Greece participated in the “Schools for All – Integration of Refugee Children in the Greek Schools” program. These schools successfully completed the implementation of their action plan, reflected on their experience, and evaluated the results of the realized activities.
We are proud of the schools’ work and certain that our collaboration with them was only the beginning of sustainable change towards the cultivation of a democratic and inclusive school culture.

- 2nd Gymnasium of Halkida – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school was developed under the title “We meet- We get to know each other- We move forward together”. Despite the fact that the student population of Ritsona camp has been in a particular type of lockdown since March 2020, the school has deployed various ways to operate inclusively as much as possible.
- 1st Gymnasium of St. Dimitrios – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school entitled “Cultivating a Culture of Institutional Cooperation” aimed to improve the operation of student councils, to train in decision-making, and to cultivate respect as well as flexibility, listening and observation skills to promote democratic culture.
- 5th Gymnasium of Halkida – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school focused on the cultivation of positive, extrovert school culture with specific aims to redirect educational practices towards inclusion, to promote intercultural exchange among all parents and students, and to rebuild the school’s public image within the local community.
- 42nd Gymnasium of Athens – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school aimed at cultivating flexibility, adaptability, empathy, and collaboration within the school community. Different educational and social activities were realized within and outside the classroom so as to achieve these goals.
- 1st Gymnasium of Avlona – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school was entitled “Collaborating and sharing the responsibility of designing a flexible school for all”. It was multifaceted and was developed with the active participation of all the members of the school community, deploying the existing trusting and open school environment.
- 1st Gymnasium of Kalamos, Attica – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school aimed at cultivating listening and observational skills, as well as the understanding of cultural diversity through flexibility, adaptability and empathy. The various activities implemented enhanced the school’s collaborative environment and improved communication among all its members.
- 2nd Gymnasium of Philippiada – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school aimed mainly at facilitating and promoting communication within the school community through various activities. The school seized the opportunity to reflect on its mission and on the presence of refugee students, discovering latent possibilities and hidden aspects of its collective identity.
- 1st Gymnasium of Neapoli – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school entitled “A school with open windows” aimed at cultivating trust and synergy among teachers, students, and the wider community and in raising awareness regarding inclusion and refugee education within the parent community.
- 6th Gymnasium of Serres – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school deployed the whole-school approach and aimed at raising intercultural awareness through various participatory activities. Teachers, parents, and students participated in trainings and meetings, and experiential workshops.
- Evening Gymnasium of Halkida – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school focused on “Acceptance and Cultivation of the cultural diversity of our school” and was designed to achieve a balance between different student groups (such as Roma, refugee students, unaccompanied minor refugees and people from vulnerable social groups) and to create an educational and wider social context of inclusion.
- Evening Gymnasium of Kilkis – Action Plan: The action plan of the school included trainings and experiential workshops designed according to the principles of school collaboration. These educational activities were addressed to students and teachers aiming and focused on cooperation, respect, conflict resolution, openness to cultural diversity, and empathy.
- Intercultural Gymnasium of Evosmos, Thessaloniki – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school was developed with the aim of cultivating democratic skills in teaching and learning and in the management of the school and school culture in a whole-school approach. The activities realized had a three-fold goal: the active participation of students in their own learning, the systematic utilization of their experiences aw teaching resources and the promotion and social inclusion of all parents of the school community.
- Gymnasium of Katsika – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school entitled “Think Global – Act Locally and Collectively” was rich and involved various activities with multifaceted learning outcomes. The implemented activities were related to school life as a whole, involving the teaching and learning process, the management of the school and school culture, and the cooperation within the community.
- 30th Gymnasium of Thessaloniki – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school entitled “School in action!” focused on the management of the school and school culture, through encouraging active participation of all students so as to prevent ghettoization, cultivating parent-community cooperation, and promoting social inclusion of all parents.
- 8th Gymnasium of Ioannina – School’s Website – Action Plan: The motto of the action plan of the school was ” Getting to know myself better through others”. It included various activities regarding the welcoming of refugee students, the promotion of multilingualism, and events outside the classroom, such as museum visits and participation in the town marathon.
- 2nd Gymnasium of Elefsina – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school, with a key phrase “Respect for diversion”, resulted from the training of the members of the school community regarding the promotion and understanding of cultural diversity, respect and empathy. The carious activities deployed music and festivities to bring students, parents, and teachers together.
- 2nd Gymnasium of Alexandria, Imathia – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school aimed at including the refugee students as an integral part of the school and at making them feel accepted and equal. It was implemented through a variety of activities that deployed the whole-school approach.
- Evening Gymnasium of St. Dimitrios – School’s Website – Action Plan: The action plan of the school aimed at cultivating respect, cooperation, openness, flexibility, and adaptability within the school community. It was entitled “Educational Heterogeneity: Equal Participation” and was carried out through diverse activities specifically designed for reception classes.
