“Education for Global Citizenship” promotes cooperation between NGOs and schools, with an aim to achieve systemic change in citizenship education. Three associations consisting of NGOs and schools from different areas in Portugal are at the core of the project.
As an external evaluator, EWC aims to provide partners, stakeholders as well as the Active Citizenship Fund operator with an understanding of the project’s achievements and shortcomings, with special attention on impact against stated objectives. Furthermore, the evaluation will provide lessons learnt and recommendations for the future.
On October 10-11, all project actors met for a kick-off where they got to know each other, clarify doubts and share the first action plans of the three Associations, together with relevant educational resources. The groups had the opportunity to get acquainted with the whole school approach; learn about and discuss the instrument for measuring the students’ level of citizenship competences as well as plan its implementation in schools. Furthermore, they exchanged ideas on how to monitor and report during the implementation of their action plans.
Experiences, findings and lessons learnt will be disseminated through a good practices publication with a view to strengthen the role of NGOs in public policies and citizenship education.
The project is funded by the Active Citizen Fund Portugal under the EEA/Norway Grants. Partners are the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Fundação Gonçalo da Silveira.
