Event in Oslo 17th October: Empowering Youth for Democratic Change

The European Wergeland Centre and partners invite you to a film screening and panel discussion on the role of youth in promoting democracy and human rights in Europe.

FREE ENTRANCE/REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Across the world, young people have always played a central role in the fight for democracy and human rights. With their energy, creativity and openness to new ideas, young people are well-positioned to challenge the status quo and work towards more inclusive, transparent and accountable governance.

Throughout history, we have countless examples of young people working to promote a democratic culture – even in times of war.

Today, young people in Europe are once again growing up on a continent at war, where the idea of democracy is increasingly challenged by non-democratic forces. What can they do to promote democracy, and how can the older generations help them develop the tools they need to influence their future?

The European Wergeland Centre (EWC), in collaboration with savED and the Municipality of Lublin, invites you to a panel discussion and film screening on 17th October 2024, to discuss the role of youth in the fight for democratic change.

This event is part of the “Youth for the City, City for the Youth” program – a collaboration between the Wergeland Center and Lublin Municipality in Poland. The project aims to empower young people to cope with crises and strengthen their ability to participate in public life. The project consists of a number of different activities and is supported by the European Economic Area (EEA) funds for social and economic cohesion.

In the documentary “WE ARE U” we meet young people Sofia, Danil, Daria, Darii and Myroslava who all live in different parts of Ukraine. They get the chance to create a project under mentors Andriy Golyutyak and Natalia Pashkovska, which will promote innovation and make Ukraine’s future better. At the same time, the young people talk about how the war has affected them, their dreams and how they want to realize them.
